Our members are… Caring
Carers Week is an annual campaign which raises awareness of caring, highlights the challenges faced by carers and recognises the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. This years’ Carers Week (8-14 June) focuses on building Carer Friendly Communities; communities which support carers to look after their loved ones well, while recognising that they are individuals with needs of their own. Carers Week is brought to life by the individuals and organisations who come together to organise activities and events throughout the UK, drawing attention to just how important caring is. This week, we’re showcasing some fabulous Co-operative & Community Finance members, who are all working to provide sustainable, democratic and compassionate care services for their communities.
Highland Home Care
Highland Home Care – the second largest employee-owned business in Scotland – is one of the UK’s most successful providers of home care. They provide care and support for elderly, disabled and vulnerable people to allow them to remain in their own homes and retain their independence.
SHARE Community
SHARE Community is an organisation in London helping disabled people by offering employment advice, training, and personal development services. They also run a horticultural project to help their students to remain in secure employment. A loan from Co-operative & Community Finance in 2007 helped SHARE Community to purchase their building.
Sunderland Home Care
Starting as Little Women Household Services in 1976, Sunderland Home Care Associates now has over 450 members, making them one of the largest co-operatives in the UK. They were the first to receive a loan from Co-operative and Community Finance.
